I would get the green card, because you might do not get the chance for another one You won the green card in the lottery and not because of a spouse who is U.S. Citizen. Getting the green card does not cost you much (some paper work only, attorney fees, if you decide to use one, what is not necessary for DV1).
You only have to visit the territory of the United States (enter the USA) once a year (I think one day stay is sufficient). That should be manageable and keeps your options open.
Once you have the green card, you can keep an eye on job openings and career opportunities in the United States and then decide on a case by case basis, if it is worth to move to the States.
I believe that there is still a shortage in labor in the Bio tech sector (as there is in the Medical Sector as well, Hospitals PAY bounties for nurses they can hire)

In conclusion, volunteering through school is a good strategy for high school students because they can learn more about potential career paths just by trying it out. It will also help people in need and, most importantly, the student will recognise what volunteering means to others and will receive all the rewards that go with that. The opportunities that volunteering provides are endless, as long as the personal motives are positive and good. As Mahatma Gandhi said, "Be the change you want to see in the world".
